Pleasant Street United Methodist Church Is a Place for All People!
Everyone is welcome at Pleasant Street United Methodist Church (PSUMC), regardless of race, class, sexual orientation, gender identity, political affiliation or any of the myriad ways we categorize and divide ourselves. What matters most to us, and what unites us as a vibrant, compassionate community of faith, is the assurance that we are all beloved children of God and of sacred worth to our Creator.

Pleasant Street United Methodist Church is a member of the Reconciling Ministries Network of The United Methodist Church. We encourage people to continue to engage the topics of homosexuality and diversity by hosting studies, speakers, and other events that provide opportunities for conversation, learning, welcoming and growth.

Our Mission Statement:

We are Christian disciples called together by God to unite our hearts, hopes and talents for the benefit of all God’s creation. Guided by the Spirit of Christ, we strive to express our faith through Spirit-filled worship, service and hospitality.

What We Believe

The United Methodist Church is an 11-million-member global church that is opening hearts, minds and doors through active engagement with our world. John Wesley and the early Methodists placed primary emphasis on Christian living – putting faith and love into action. This emphasis on what Wesley referred to as “practical divinity” continues to be a hallmark of United Methodism today.

The mission of the United Methodist Church is “to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.” At Pleasant Street United Methodist Church we believe that we accomplish this through the ministries of witness, nurture, and outreach. We are called to be invitational, hospitable, accepting, and inclusive. We are called to care for and nurture all people, enabling them to grow in their experience and understanding of God and of what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ. We are called to be active in mission – concerned about and responsive to needs beyond the doors of the church, locally and around the world.

We take seriously “our theological task” – the ongoing effort of reflecting on our faith through the lenses of scripture, tradition, experience and reason. Such reflection assists us in interpreting the Bible for our contemporary context and provides guidance for moral questions and dilemmas faced in daily living.

Pleasant Street United Methodist Church is a theologically diverse congregation. We have members who hold conservative viewpoints and members who are theologically progressive. There is room for difference in our understandings because we respect one another and are committed to living and growing together in Christian love.
